Gifted and Talented Education Council - Philosophy

Philosophy

1. We believe all students need appropriate and challenging opportunities to develop their individual talents and interests.

2. We believe that gifted and talented students require individual educational programming in order to meet their intellectual, social and affective potentials.

3. We believe that teachers play a critical role in assisting students to maximize learning; therfore, professional development opportunities to improve the quality of educational practices for gifted and talented students are essential.

4. We believe that it is essential to establish and maintain a culture within schools that values, promotes and rewards social responsibility.

Goals

1. The Gifted and Talented Education Council will encourage and support teachers in their ongoing efforts to recognize individuality and promote higher levels of thinking, learning, and productivity among students.

2. The Gifted and Talented Education Council will assist teachers in developing their skills and abilities in assessment of student needs and preparation of appropriate individual education plans.
